Â
Ten penalties were handed out, with each team scoring twice with the extra skater, while 16 different players recorded a point.
Â
It was a busy first period, with four goals, two for each side.
Â
The Bisons took a 2-0 lead just over midway through the opening 20.
Michael King got the scoring started, deflecting a
Dexter Whittle shot from the blue line in at 7:28.
Â
Jonny Hooker added to the Herd's lead with a one-timer from the right slot on a cross-ice feed from
Eric Alarie, who waited the defence out to find the Bisons' captain for his favourite play on the power play.
Â
It was Hooker's tenth goal of the season, tied for the Canada West lead. Nine of Hooker's goals have come with the man advantage, the most in the conference. It's also the second year in a row where he's scored at least ten goals in a season.
Â
The Cougars pushed back, leveling the game heading into the dressing room.
Â
Defenceman Blake Heward made it 2-1 with seven minutes to go, blasting a one-timer from the top of the blue line that found the back of the net thanks to a screen in front.
Â
Three minutes later, Regina evened the score with a power play goal of their own.
Â
Forwards Carson Whyte and Jakob Brook connected for a fantastic play, with Brook using his back-hand to tip in a Whyte pass top-shelf from the far post for his third goal of the season.
Â
The two sides kept the goal parade going in the second, combining for three goals, two on the power play.
Â
Regina took their first lead, 3-2 with the extra skater, as Brook had time and space from the right slot, going far post with a wrist shot at 9:05.
Â
The Herd responded with their second power play goal, a sensational backhand-forehand finish in front from forward
Grady Lane, on a dish from
Dawson Pasternak.
Â
Less than a minute later, Regina re-took the lead, as Borysiuk scored his first of the season, picking up a loose puck that went off a Bison and blasting it into the net from close range for the game-winner.
Â
Manitoba had a few chances to tie the game in the third, including a power play with six minutes to go, along with a six-on-five for two minutes with their goalie pulled, but they were unable to tie the game.
Â
Their best chance with the extra skater came during their five-on-four power play with five minutes left, as defenceman
Parker Malchuk had space near the faceoff dot, but his shot was blocked.
Â
Jackson Doucet eventually sealed the deal with an empty netter in the final minute.
Â
With the win, Regina pulled within two points of Manitoba for fourth, with six heading into the winter break.
