The Bisons men (7-13) face a must-win situation in their last weekend of the regular season. A game back of Mount Royal for the last playoff spot in Canada West, they need a pair of wins against the Huskies and two Cougars losses to avoid a tiebreaker. Right now, a tiebreaker (sets won divided by sets lost) would be won by Mount Royal (34/43 vs. 26/45 for Manitoba).

Saskatchewan (9-11) are also on the playoff bubble and looking for a favourable matchup in the quarterfinals. They've been led by outside hitter Dylan Mortensen this season, who is fifth in the conference in kills per set (3.69) on an exceptional .294 hitting percentage.

Right above him in the kills per set rankings is Bisons fifth-year Kevin Negus, who will once again be the centre of attention as he's averaged a prolific 3.86 K/S with a .213 hitting percentage. Negus is also strong behind the service line, totaling 24 aces this season.

The Bisons women won't see the playoffs this year at 4-18, but have shown positive momentum in the second half — winning both matches last weekend against Brandon. They'll take on a Huskies team (12-10) that have clinched their ticket to the playoffs and are playing for matchups.

Key to Manitoba's wins over the Bobcats was first-year middle Light Uchechukwu, who had a career-high 19 kills — including the last two points of the match — in a five-set victory last Friday. Uchechukwu has averaged 2.08 kills per set and a .142 hitting percentage in her first season with the Bisons.

Bisons volleyball tickets are $10 at the door, with UM students and fans 12-and-uner in free! Join us as we honour the career of Garth Pischke on Friday and our volleyball seniors on Saturday.

Track and Field – SDSU Invitational

A week after visiting Fargo for the NDSU Invitational, Bisons track and field dip further south to Sioux Falls for the SDSU Invitational this weekend. With Canada West Championships just two weeks away, it's an important weekend for qualifying times.

Right now, the Bisons men are ranked number seven in the country, and it's already been an impressive run for both teams — 11 Bisons are in the U SPORTS top ten in their events, with an additional two relay teams (men's 4x400, 4x800) reaching top two in the nation.

Results can be viewed through Dakota Timing.
